Elizabeth Gilbert is a perinatal support practitioner offering antenatal education, birth support and postpartum care for women and families across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and surrounding areas. Her work includes the type of continuous, non-clinical birth support often associated with a doula, alongside education and postpartum care.
Approach to perinatal support
With a background in nursing and midwifery, Elizabeth brings clinical understanding alongside calm, continuous and evidence-based support. She works in a non-clinical role alongside existing maternity services, supporting women through pregnancy, labour and the early weeks after birth.
Her approach is grounded in preparation, steady presence and respectful collaboration with midwives, obstetricians and wider healthcare teams.
Elizabeth was drawn to perinatal support after many years working in healthcare. Over time, she saw how stretched maternity systems can leave families without the time, reassurance and continuity they need during such a significant life transition. While clinical care is essential, she recognised the value of offering education, emotional support and practical guidance that sits alongside medical care rather than replacing it.
Services offered
Elizabeth offers antenatal education focused on informed decision making, birth preparation and emotional readiness. She is deeply passionate about education and believes that clear, evidence-based information empowers women to feel more confident and supported throughout their experience.
During labour, she provides calm, personalised birth support, offering reassurance, comfort measures and steady presence while working respectfully alongside the medical team. Where appropriate, she also offers discreet birth photography, capturing the experience quietly without disrupting the birth space.
In the postpartum period, Elizabeth offers in-home support through her kraamzorg-inspired The Dutch Way service. This supports families to rest, recover, establish feeding and settle into life with a new baby.
Elizabeth works with a small number of families at a time so that care feels thoughtful, responsive and unhurried. Because every family is different, she tailors her support to individual needs. For some, this looks like structured guidance. For others, it may be quiet reassurance or simply being present during moments that feel tender or overwhelming.

I can’t thank Lizzy enough for the incredible support I received. She provided such a calming, reassuring, and supportive presence throughout my labour — exactly what I needed. I’m so grateful for her guidance and would highly recommend Lizzy at Conception to anyone looking for compassionate, professional support during birth.David, Lee & Baby Scarlett
I wouldn’t have got the birth I wanted had it not been for Lizzie, and I am forever grateful. Lizzie was a transformative presence for both me and my husband – she guided and held me through my labour and was a pivotal presence. Her wisdom, knowledge and calming energy enabled me to feel safe and held, drown out the noise, and focus on what really mattered which was delivering my child. I cannot recommend her enough. Thank you Lizzie.Ben, Bertie & Baby Rex
Liz was an incredible support throughout our pregnancy and birth journey. She is passionately pro-natural birth, yet always respectful of our choices, and she guided us with calm confidence every step of the way. Her ability to work with us as a couple brought so much reassurance, helping us stay connected and grounded during the entire process. She provided all the information we needed to anticipate and respond to the realities of a first-time birth, making the experience far less overwhelming. We’re deeply grateful for her presence, wisdom, and care.André and Irene
